YOUR LONG-TERM PATHWAY
Residency to citizenship
- 01
Independent-means certificate
Under the current 2026 framework, the permanent-residence certificate is initially valid for ten years, subject to investment and ongoing compliance.
- 02
Indefinite residence
Apply for the indefinite certificate in the ninth year under the applicable rules. Earlier holders may fall within transitional provisions.
- 03
British Overseas Territories citizenship
Naturalisation requires a separate assessment of qualifying residence, immigration status, absences, language, life knowledge and character. A BOTC certificate can then support a Cayman Islands passport application.
An initial certificate is not an immediate entitlement to nationality. BOTC naturalisation, British citizenship and the right to be Caymanian are distinct processes.
Each stage requires its own qualifying conditions and decision. The years shown are eligibility periods, not approval times.
