Eligibility
Sufficient resources for the entire stay and health insurance. EU/EEA/Swiss nationals and Algerian nationals fall under different arrangements.
Requirements
Evidence of resources, accommodation, passport and lawful long-stay status, a written undertaking not to work and health-cover documentation. The current single-person benchmark is €1,477.93 net monthly, assessed over a year.

Residency to citizenship

    Maintain the business, entrepreneur or independently supported residence permission and make France your genuine home.

  2. 02
    Long-term residence · from 5 years

    Long-term EU resident status generally requires five years of eligible continuous residence, stable resources, health cover and the applicable integration conditions.

  3. 03
    French citizenship · ordinarily 5 years

    Naturalisation normally requires five years of habitual residence, with your family and material interests in France, integration, language and civic requirements, lawful income and good character. An individual decision is required.

Permanent residence is not a mandatory first step to naturalisation. The current 2026 language and civic-examination rules must be met, a residence card alone is insufficient.

Apply for the visitor long-stay visa through France-Visas and the competent consulate with resources, housing, insurance and the no-work undertaking. Complete visa validation or the required residence formalities after arrival, then renew through the prescribed residence channel before expiry.
