Nationality after qualifying residence

This is a residence-based nationality application, not citizenship by investment. A property purchase or short annual visit is not enough.

Benefits
Citizenship if the nationality application is approved, followed by a separate passport application.
Eligibility
Civil capacity, Portuguese communication, satisfactory criminal history and normally four years of qualifying indefinite residence. Reduced periods depend on a specific statutory basis.
Requirements
Residence registration and travel history, identity and criminal records, evidence of Portuguese and any qualifying reduction. On the ordinary four-year basis, aggregate absences must normally remain within 12 months.
