- 02
Long-term residence · from 5 years
Five years of legal, continuous residence can support a long-term residence application, subject to the permitted-absence and other applicable conditions.

Spanish citizenship · normally 10 years
Nationality by residence normally requires ten years of legal, continuous residence immediately before application, good civic conduct and integration. Reduced periods apply to specified nationalities and personal circumstances, the Spanish-language and civic tests apply unless exempt.
Long-term residence does not automatically produce a passport. A shorter nationality period must be established from your own nationality or family circumstances.
Each stage requires its own qualifying conditions and decision. The years shown are eligibility periods, not approval times.
