Norway Exempts Children Travelling With Their Vaccinated Parents From Quarantine Hotels Requirement

As of now, children travelling together with their parents who have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 or have recovered from the disease will not be required to stay isolated at quarantine hotels.

Following the announcement, the Minister of Justice and Emergency Management Monica Mæland said that it is only natural that children are exempt from this requirement since it would be unnecessary for the parents to stay in quarantine hotels because of their children.

“If the parents have to stay in quarantine hotels, it will be natural that children they travel with also come to quarantine hotels. However, if the parents are exempt from quarantine hotels, we believe it is not necessary or proportionate that the parents have to go to quarantine hotels because of their children,” Mæland claimed.

According to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, restrictions regarding the quarantine hotels requirement prevent those who have stayed in COVID-19 highly affected areas from spreading the virus.

Even though the risk that children and young people between the ages of 12 and 18 may transmit the virus remains, the Ministry sees it as unproportionate for those travelling with their guardians to be subject to quarantine hotels.

Starting from today, children travelling alone will also be exempt from the quarantine hotels requirement.
